Fennig

Fennig was the birthplace of Minna and Alyn Hunter. It was founded by Lord Anton Fennig 250 years before Minna was born. When he encountered backlash from his fellow Volloch for marrying an Alle’oss woman, he took his family, his fortune and fled the Empire. When he arrived in the small hamlet that became Fennig, he had gone as far as he could. He invested in the small farms east of the village and their growing prosperity attracted other Alle’oss who wanted to be as far from Imperial influence as possible. This is the reason why the citizens of Fennig work so hard to remain hidden from the Empire. Harold and Stefan both comment on the fact that Fennig looks more like an Imperial city than most Alle’oss villages. Fennig’s influce is the reason why.

Honua

Honua, or the shelter, is a spot used by many Alle’oss, but especially by the rebels. A granite outcrop provides shelter from the elements, so it’s a good place to meet or spent the night. Honua is where Minna and Ulf stop their first night of their journey to Brennan. It appears in several books including Argren Blue, Spirit Sight Vol 1, Spirit Light Vol 2, Spirit Light Vol 1 and Spirit Light Vol 2.

Battle of the Kalana Valley

On this site, the small Alle’oss army commanded by Lief defeated a much larger army of Union mercenaries in Spirit Light Vol 1. For those of you who are history buffs, you might recognize the tactics employed by the English at the battle of Agincourt.

The Earthquake Spirit

Minna channeled the earthquake spirit when she faced Macha, Eriu and Neiman for the first time in Spirit Light Vol 1.

Helala

Helala, or the Sanctuary, is a town founded by Ragan where the Alle’oss resistance could gather children persecuted by the Empire. The village appears in Spirit Sight Vol 2, Spirit Light Vol 1 and Spirit Light Vol 2.

The Stairs

The stairs were cut into the face of the escarpment by the Alle’oss long ago. Ulf and Minna use these to leave Argren in Spirit Sight Vol 1. They also play a role in Spirit Light Vol 1.

The Cut

The Cut was cut into the escarpment by the Empire to provide access to southern Argren. It’s near the Cut where Minna and Ulf encounter Brother Ivan in Spirit Sight Vol 1. The Alle’oss army commaned by Aron defend the Cut in Spirit Light Vol 1.

Kartok

Kartok is the center of Imperial influence in Argren. Imperials have reshaped the according to their staid aesthetic and relegated the Alle’oss into small neighborhoods. The Inquisition headquarters and the cathedral of the Vollen Church in Argren are located there. Alar and other Oss’stera rebels visit Kartok with Ragan in Argren Blue. Tove grew up on the cruel streets of Kartok.

Ninth Legion Fortress

It was on this spot that the Ninth Legion encamped while laying siege to the Cut in Spirit Light Vol 1. This was also near where Minna and Ulf looked down on the city of Hast before joining the slave caravan in Spirit Sight Vol 1.

Lirantok

Lirantok was Scilla’s and Ukrit’s home before Imperial Cavalry killed their parents and burned their home. It’s also the home of Old Jep who plays a role in multiple books. Alar travels here in Argren Blue, Brie and Lief meet here in Desulti and Oss’stera. Minna attends the early summer festival here in Spirit Light Vol 2.

Ishien River Valley

The Ishien River Valley, or just the Valley, is one of the most prosperous parts of Argren. Their wealth is based mainly on the artistic pigments and wool cloth. The Valley plays a part in Argren Blue, Desulti, Oss’stera and Spirit Light Vol 2.

Richeleau

Richeleau is the home of Governor Adelbart, the Imperial governor of Argren. It’s the second largest city in Argren, after Kartok, but unlike Kartok, it retains much of its Alle’oss character and has a diverse population. Parts of Argren Blue, Desulti and Oss’stera take place here.

Honutok

Honutok was founded by Alar, the leader of the rebels who call themselves Oss’stera, in Argren Blue. It’s the home for many of the founding members of Oss’stera. It also appears in the book Oss’stera.

Lachton

Lachton was once a small Alle’oss village that grew wealthy on fish from Lake Vitaeshu. The city nestles among the foothills of the Northern Mountains and retains the beauty and eclectic Alle’oss aesthetic. The Imperials came and, as they were won’t to do, pushed the Alle’oss out of the commercial life of the city and relegated them to second class status. Alar and Oss’stera changed that trajectory beginning in the book Oss’stera and by the time Harold arrives in Spirit Sight Vol 1, he’s surprised to find the Alle’oss so prominent in the community. Sera and Nicola visit Alar in Lachton in Spirit Light Vol 2.

Téama

Téama is the village founded by the first women who fled the Empire to form the Desulti, or the Order. The Order became a refuge for women escaping the deeply patriarchical Empire. Some are escaping abusive situations, fleeing arranged marriages or are just looking for opportunities denied them. Téama appears in the book Desulti and will appear in Murtair.

Ka’tan

Ka’tan is the third largest city in Argren. It grew wealthy when the Imperial geologists discover coal and other minerals in the mountains surrounding the Ka’tan Valley. The Empire enslaves people of the lower castes from across the Empire to work the mines. The fortress north of the city is one of the largest in Argren. Ka’tan appears in the book Desulti.

Brennan

The Imperial capital. The Inquisition fortress, Seidi tower and the Imperial palace are located here. Minna was lost in the capital during Spirit Sight Vol 2. Harold Wolfe grew up an orphan in the impoverished district called the Fallows. Sera and Nicola meet in the Imperial District.

Maintz

Maintz is the gateway to the Empire’s agricultural region in southern Styria which occupies the plans west of Maintz. Maintz has a reputation as a lawless town which caters to the cowboys and other itenerant workers who visit the city. Sera and Nicola pass through Maintz during their flight from Brennan.

Oasis

The Oasis surrounds a well which provides one of the only watering opportunities for caravans crossing the road that crosses the norther plains. Sera and Nicola pass through the Oasis twice.

Ulm

Ulm is the largest seaport in the eastern Empire. Most of the agriculural produces which are exported pass through this port after being shiped south on the Orn River from Maintz. As a destination for ships from around the world, Ulm is a cauldren of rebellion. Flynn passes through Ulm on the way to Hast in Spirit Light Vol 1 and Keelia and Flynn spend time in Ulm during Spirit Light Vol 2.

Lubern

Though Lubern is smaller than Ulm, it is still a busy port. East Lubern is a base for many smugglers and pirates. Ships operated by the rebel group, Oss’stera, are based in East Lubern. Keela and Flynn spend time in Lubern in Spirit Light Vol 2.

Hast

At one time, Hast was a small Alle’oss village. One of only two, with Lachton, outside Argren. Needing access to Argren, the Empire moved into the city and relegated the Alle’oss to a ghetto north of the Imperial Highway. Hast has the only bridge across the Odin River. It is the headquarters for the Imperial Military District of Argren and it’s fort houses the garrison which conducts anti-rebel forays into Argren. Minna and Ulf pass through Hast in on the way to Brennan to rescue Alyn.
