Somehow, after spending most of his life in the south, Ross found himself living in Milwaukee and loving it. One cold, snowy morning, not too long ago, he woke with a story stuck in his head. That wasn’t unusual, but what happened next was unprecedented. He wrote it down. That small story grew into his first novel, Spirit Sight.

While he contemplated the second book in the Spirit Song trilogy, he started a prequel with his partner of 35 years, Deb. That resulted in Argren Blue which appeared in May 2023.

Some might wonder why he took so long to find his calling in life, but he’s just grateful he did.

DL Heim has also found a life in Milwaukee after a vagabond existence in various suburbs across the

South and Northeast. Despite an undergraduate degree in English Literature, the urge to write fiction

did not take hold until their partner Ross Hightower tapped out the first draft of Spirit Sight that fateful

snowy morning. On Argen Blue and Desulti, they have served as a sounding board, researcher and

fellow plot wrangler rather than an actual author. The journey as a partner in this unexpected

adventure has been more than worth it.

Past Appearances and Events

Sunday, September 18, Deb and I had a table at the Awkward Nerd Book Fair in Milwaukee.

We celebrated the release of Spirit Sight with a lot of our friends at the Black Huskey Brewery on September 25. We had Irish music, local authors sharing their books, readings from Spirit Sight, (including an audience participation scene), Deb and Tim sang a ballad that Deb wrote, and gave away Spirit Sight beer glasses.

I read a short scene from Spirit Sight on a panel at the Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books on November 5.

I got my nerd on October 14 – 16, 2022, at the Multiverse Fandom Convention in Atlanta, GA.

Deb and Ross had a blast at LA Comic Con December 2 – 4, 2022, but we found out we suck at selling.
