When Alar joined the resistance, he dreamed of throwing the imperial oppressors out of Argren. But as the inexperienced rebels reel from one disaster to another, Alar wonders if the Empire notices them at all. Until the day he discovers he has powers not seen since the great heroes of the past.

As he explores his newfound abilities, an imperial witch appears to ask the rebels to rescue prisoners from an Inquisition prison. The plan is crazy, but the rebels have been riding the ragged edge of crazy for years. Though their surprising success revives their dreams, they may come to regret drawing the Empire’s attention.

When a powerful inquisitor sends novice Harold Wolfe to root out the nascent rebel group, Harold has to wonder why. As a half-breed, Wolfe, is persecuted for his humble origins. By the time he discovers the trap, it’s too late to escape the tangled web involving the rebels, a mysterious assassin, a corrupt imperial governor, and foreign mercenaries, all vying for a cache of priceless art.

While Harold looks for a way out, Alar and the rebels fight for their land, their people, and their freedom.

Praise for Argren Blue

The authors have created a vivid and compelling world…. I was immediately invested in the fate of Alar and his friends, aided by the skillfully described settings and circumstances. The writing is outstanding, fully immersing the reader in the emotions and the adventures of the many characters. Told from multiple points of view, I was easily able to distinguish and keep track of the numerous groups and relationships. It is somewhat lengthy, but it’s a fast read simply because it was difficult to put down. … The novel can certainly be read as a standalone, but judging by the quality of the writing, it would be worthwhile to snap up a copy of Spirit Sight, the first in the series.

A fast-paced, five-star fantasy adventure that will remain in your thoughts long after the last page is turned. 5-Stars!

— Sublime Book Review

The authors’ prose is often painterly, appropriate given that Argren’s primary export to the rest of the Empire is its rare paint pigments: “It was the vibrant colors that attracted the artists to the valley. The surrounding hills were rich in the plants and minerals required to produce the vivid hues the Alle’oss loved. The inhabitants of the valley grew rich on pigments coveted throughout the Empire and beyond.” The world is vast and meticulously crafted, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously to have fun. The plot moves swiftly, and the characters, if familiar in type, play their roles well. Readers should find their appetites sufficiently whetted to seek out the other novels in the Spirit Song series.

An expertly spun fantasy adventure featuring magic, combat, and art appreciation.

Argren Blue by Ross Hightower and Deb Heim was the perfect story for me to read over a week and pore over every aspect of it. The
book is 45 chapters long, and it still wasn’t enough for me. I loved the thrill Alar felt when he discovered his powers and when he
started perfecting them. Harold also gained confidence and accepted his position and destiny to become a powerful character. I
sometimes felt sorry for Harold, but it was necessary for his development. I truly appreciated the pace of the story and the
length of the chapters. There were plenty of characters to keep track of, and the pace helped with that. The imagery was perfect,
the dialogue was fantastic, and the overall feel of the story was incredible. The action was relentless, and the plot was excellent.
The ending made me feel as if the authors are planning a sequel, and if so I, cannot wait for what comes next.

In a world where magic is forgotten and witches who know such things are hunted, we find young Minna and her sister, Alyn, newly awakened to their power and on the run from the Empire. Filled with intrigue, deception, and warring factions desperate to control the fate of the Empire, this book weaves an engrossing tale that is as captivating in its world-building as it is in its character development. High fantasy mixed with mythic tale-telling, the author explores what it means to be a pawn in someone else’s scheme. That is, until the pawn realizes the true extent of her power and the path it will set for the rest of the Empire.

The cast members, though plentiful, are well rounded and often intriguing, and the relationships and dialogue between them are natural and believable. There’s a great deal of worldbuilding in this opening installment, including maps and helpfully defined terms in fictional languages: “Her father told her they were the lan’and, the land spirits, though, like everyone else, he couldn’t see them.” Hightower moves the story through this thoughtful environment swiftly and concisely, making it easy to grasp, and also provides scenes of action and adventure. Readers will likely be excited to see where the stories take them.

A lengthy but compelling tale that’s packed with essential fantasy elements.

Kirkus Review

SPIRIT SIGHT blends its classic fantasy premise—the humble commoner comes into magical powers and is thrust into a grand destiny involving monumental forces—with themes of religious and political corruption, with an appealing focus on spirituality and the natural world. That Minna’s quest quickly broadens to encompass immense, earth-shaking stakes is unsurprising for an epic trilogy, but Hightower never loses sight of his heroine’s personal journey. Minna may be a familiar fantasy type, but she is an engaging character who is easy to relate to and root for, written with empathy and personality. Hightower doesn’t skim past Minna’s development from a naive rural villager to a valiant adventurer; her path to mastering her abilities is a fun, engaging storyline, and it’s almost impossible not to be fully invested in Minna’s quest by the time she emerges into the wider world of Vollen.

SPIRIT SIGHT by Ross Hightower is one of the best epic fantasy books I’ve read! The novel was worth every minute for its unusual storyline, brilliant plot, consistent characters, exceptional worldbuilding, and writing style. This story went from laying a solid foundation to featuring nonstop action. There were secrets and lies, power quests and political drama, betrayals, sacrifice, magic, sorcery, losses, and redemption. I had many favorites with unique personalities from Jason to Ulf, Alyn, Keelia, Harold, Marie, Aron, and others. They left a great impression on me. Alyn and Minna were brave, and I felt the former was wiser than her years and would become even more powerful because she was level-headed. The narrative was so descriptive that I lived through Minna in this story. I didn’t like Ragan as much because she used everyone as pawns. This is the first book in a trilogy that shows how people fear what they don’t understand and seek to destroy what they cannot attain. Thank you for a captivating read, Ross.

Spirit Sight by Ross Hightower is a fantastic start to the trilogy. It fits the genre perfectly and is an engaging story; it grabbed me from the first page and held me there until the end. It is quite long but, once you start reading it, you won’t notice that because you’ll be in the story, living it as you read. The characters are really welldeveloped and quite complex but they need to be for this kind of story. The story is packed with action, with plenty of twists and turns and lots of well-written dialogue. The plot is unique, a comingof- age story with an ending that leaves you really wanting to read the next one. This is a captivating story that will take you away from the realities of life and let you wallow in magic and fantasy for a few hours. When it’s done, you’ll want the story to continue. Looking forward to reading the next installment in this fascinating series.
