This is the next book our epic fantasy book club is reading, and lucky for us, because otherwise we never would have found this gem of a story. Is it historical fantasy? Urban fantasy? Queer fantasy? Magical realism? Romantasy? Yes, all of that. We follow the intertwining stories of Ulysses, a grad student/mage and Sam, an archivist, who fall adorably in love as they race against time to save Sam from possession. Magic is a course of study, as pedestrian as the field of archeology or ancient languages. Magical abilities are analogous to musical ability or family recipes – something you’re born into and learn more about as you grow up. Just like family secrets. A quirky, inventive read.
What we’re writing
Oss’stera and more
We have already submitted the manuscript for Oss’stera, the next book in the Spirit Song: Rebels Rising prequel series. Please contact us if you would like to have an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review when the book is published in September 2025. Ross has also submitted Spirit Light Volume 2, the next book in the Spirit Song Saga. Finally, Spirit Sight Volume 1 has been updated to align better with the later books in the series. The ebook/Kindle/Audiobook will be on sale for $0.99 from January 18-21. If you haven’t taken the plunge on the full series yet, this is your chance! What we’re doing
Annual Key West writing adventure
Ross and Deb will be in Key West the second week in January, warming our cold Midwest bones and soaking up the vibes. We expect to get a lot of writing done, and not much else, which is just fine with us.
