Lehasa!
Welcome back to Argren – an epic kick-ass epic fantasy series about witches who take on the patriarchy! As an introduction to the lore, Ross has updated access to Abria’s Gift, a short story that reveals the origin story of Spirit Song magic and the evil Vollen Empire. Keep an eye out for more short stories about the world, and your chance to have your name added as a character.
What we’re reading
Around Curiosity’s Edge by JP Hostetler.
Deb has read all the of JP Hostetler’s books in the “Curiosity” series. It is very much in the YA fantasy genre, which is frankly soothing when real life events are not. From her posted review – “When curiosity is replaced with certainty, and the creativity of nature is viewed as chaos, there is no longer space for magic in the world. What I loved most about this last novel in the series are the gratifying character arcs for Rose, Roach and Tristan. These characters move from a place of trauma, fear or misguided intentions to hope and connectedness. In a world of fantasy sappy, happy ending can happen and I am here for it.”

What we’re writing
Oss’stera cover reveal!
We just got our new cover for Oss’stera – wow! Definitely gives Michael J. Sullivan, “Age of Myth” vibes, which is good because the Spirit Song Saga is also an epic fantasy with a meta-narrative spanning many books.

Thanks to all who are serving as Advanced readers for Oss’stera, which will be available in ebook and paperback September 2025.
Ross has also submitted Spirit Light Volume 2, the next book in the Spirit Song Saga. And he and Deb have started the first draft of “Murtair”, the next book in the prequel series. We get to explore Tove, one of our all-time favorite characters, as she continues her adventures from Desulti. Finally, Spirit Sight Volume 1 has been updated to align better with the later books in the series. First five readers who order the book and leave a review will get a limited edition, signed copy of the previous version of the paperback. Contact us at author@rosshightower.com

What we’re doing
Our “Firkins and Fantasy” epic fantasy book club focusing on local fantasy authors is going strong. Our March book will be Nettle and Bone, a Hugo book award winner. Join us at the Black Husky on Sunday March 23rd at noon.

Why we love Milwaukee – the Domes annual train show
When it cold and gray outside, there are wonderful spaces in Milwaukee to warm up. One of our favorites – the Mitchell Park Domes, especially the annual model train show. This year’s theme is “The Golden Age of Steam”. TBH the socialist inspired park system, the Hiawatha train line to Chicago, the historic buildings, and the remnants of its industrial past – the Milwaukee vibe is nothing if not steampunk.
