The Spirit Song Saga

At its heart, The Spirit Song Saga is a very personal story of Minna and Alyn Hunter, two Alle’oss sisters hunted by the Empire for having spirit sight. But their journey is woven into the broader narrative of how a peaceful people, the Alle’oss, manage to overthrow their imperial oppressors. The Spirit Song saga is no simple tale, but a truly epic fantasy about the world of Argren, with its own history, language, art and lore. The Main Spirit Song Series chronicles the events leading to the Alle’oss people’s triumph, while the Prequel Spirit Song Series reveals how a small number of visionaries lay the groundwork for that triumph.

The Main Spirit Song Series

Paraphrasing George R.R. Martin, if something happens in your world that is relevant to the story, some character has to witness it. As a result, the books in the main Spirit Song series, with overlapping plotlines and a long list of characters, aren’t a breezy weekend read. But if you are eager for a sweeping narrative on a grand stage, an immersive world, a truly unique magic system and complex characters, you will find yourself immersed in this fantasy series.

To maximize the plot twists, start with the main series, which will consist of the following six books:

The Prequel Spirit Song Series

While writing my first novel Spirit Sight, I started to wonder how the Alle’oss, a peaceful people living in small villages in the mountains, could overthrow a powerful empire bent on colonization. Discussions with my partner Deb led to the prequel series of books, each of which is focused on a few characters. Characters who, as Ragan, the Imperial witch at the heart of the resistance says are “…the fulcrums on which the fate of Empires pivot.”

If you want to ease into the Saga, start with the following books:
  • Argren Blue
  • Desulti (Due November 2024)
  • Oss’stera  (release date TBD)
  • Murtair (Sequel to Desulti,  release date TBD)
  • Unnamed book (Sequel to Oss’stera,  release date TBD)
  • The Book of the Witch

Recommended Reading Order

Easiest

You can, of course, start anywhere in the series, but it might be less confusing to read them in chronological order. If you do, you will have prior knowledge of some of the “reveals” in the Main Series. On the other hand, knowing more than the characters in a book can be quite enjoyable.

  • Argren Blue
  • Desulti
  • Oss’stera (release date TBD)
  • Murtair (release date TBD)
  • Sequel to Oss’stera (release date TBD)
  • Spirit Sight vol. 1
  • Spirit Sight vol. 2
  • Spirit Light vol. 1
  • Spirit Light vol. 2 (release data TBD)
  • Spirit Song vol. 1 (release data TBD)
  • Spirit Song vol. 2 (release data TBD)
  • Book of the Witch (release data TBD)

 Maximum Plot Twists

To maximize the impact of the reveals, I would read them in this order:

  • Spirit Sight vol. 1
  • Spirit Sight vol. 2
  • Argren Blue
  • Desulti
  • Oss’stera  (release data TBD)
  • Spirit Light vol. 1
  • Spirit Light vol. 2 (release data TBD)
  • Murtair (release date TBD)
  • Sequel to Oss’stera (release date TBD)
  • Spirit Song vol. 1 (release data TBD)
  • Spirit Song vol. 2 (release data TBD)
  • Book of the Witch (release data TBD)
